CAPTURE INGESTION AVAILABLEA PRIVATE ASTRONOMICAL WORKBENCH EST. 2026 / VOL. 01
A private observatory for real telescope data: upload and preserve original exposures, inspect FITS measurements, refine nondestructive previews, and calibrate and stack compatible frames into linear scientific masters.
ORIGINAL DATA PRESERVED · SCIENCE BEFORE SPECTACLE · PRIVATE ACCESS
FIELD GUIDE / REPEATABLE SCIENTIFIC WORKFLOWS
Choose an observing path, inspect each required step, and apply defensible starting controls. AstroScott never starts a processing job, assumes calibration, or publishes a photograph when you select a recipe.
STEP 1
CURRENT TASK
Choose a workflow, then open its first tool.
GUIDED CAPTURE-TO-FINISH PROCESS / PRIVATE
Seven clear stages, with your own choices at every handoff. No automatic cloud processing, no unreviewed calibration, and no obligation to publish.
STAGE 01 / 7
Publishing is never part of the required pipeline. You can keep an entire private gallery of alternate versions and compare them without sharing anything publicly.
Sign in to resume your private processing checklist.
PRIVATE ARCHIVE / IMMUTABLE DISPLAY VERSIONS
A collection just for you. Save finished display images from the finishing editor, then compare two or three versions at identical zoom and pan. Nothing here appears on the public website.
Sign in to browse privately saved renders.
Visual inspection only: synchronized view controls do not geometrically align separate images. Compare matching crops and pixel grids for meaningful detail comparison.
All saved versions are flattened 8-bit display PNGs, stored under your private S3 account prefix with owner-checked access. Original telescope files, scientific FITS masters, and processing jobs stay separate. To publish a chosen image, explicitly open and use the public publication action there.
PRIVATE WORKFLOW / SCIENTIFIC PROVENANCE
See which captures, settings and reported jobs contributed to a saved version. Restore a recipe for review without running cloud compute. Your telescope originals remain unchanged and no image is published.
Save includes current frame roles and processing settings, the FITS editor's display adjustments when loaded, and independently checked S3 file identities. It never saves original image pixels or starts processing.
Choose an item from history.
Recorded stages are not proof of successful computation. Open the worker-produced provenance report to verify actual calibration and output measurements.
Sign in to access private processing history.
Supports uncompressed, monochrome 2D primary FITS images. The display preview is not a calibrated master. Use the stacking workbench for bounded calibrated integration.
03 / EDIT / FLOATING-POINT DISPLAY COMPOSITOR
Paint what changes. Preserve what was captured. A Photoshop-like workspace for your actual astronomical images.
Open a FITS image or import a photograph. Source files stay unchanged.
FLOAT32 display composition up to 2.1 MP, 12 layers · PNG export is 8-bit · Scientifically calibrated FITS masters remain separate · Layer masks do not alter original samples.INVENTORY / FITS HEADER REVIEW
Group your S3 captures by recorded acquisition calendar date, target and camera; review role, filter, exposure and gain before calibration. Camera RAW/JPEG files are listed without invented acquisition metadata.
Start a private inventory scan to organize your captures.
| Use | Original file | Role | Acquired | Target | Filter | Exposure | Camera | Check | Manual annotations |
|---|
Grouping is organizational and uses only observed FITS header values or explicitly entered overrides. It is not a plate solve or scientific compatibility certification. FITS DATE-OBS is grouped by its written calendar date, not your assumed local observing night. S3 timestamps are upload/modify times, never invented acquisition dates. Maximum 500 S3 originals per scan, with up to four simultaneous header reads. Manifests contain private S3 keys: keep exports private. No processing jobs, source edits or public publication. S3 inventory/header reads have normal request charges.
INGEST / ORIGINAL CAPTURES
Upload lights, darks, flats, bias, and native camera files to private S3. Multipart transfers can be paused, retried, and resumed after interruption by reselecting the same local file.
No transfers started. Choose captures to populate the upload queue.
Uploaded originals remain private and unchanged. A browser restart requires reselecting the same files to resume saved multipart sessions; this is not automatic desktop synchronization.
LOCAL SCIENTIFIC DIAGNOSTICS
Inspect original FITS pixels, compare like-for-like exposures, then decide what belongs in the stack.
| Use | Frame | Stars¹ | FWHM¹ px | Eccentricity¹ | Background σ |
|---|
¹ Browser-side estimates from local maxima and image moments, not precision PSF fitting. Suitable for comparing homogeneous sessions; no automatic rejection.
SCIENTIFIC WORKBENCH / S3 PROCESSING JOBS
Choose original FITS exposures from the private S3 archive. The worker scans every pixel of supported two-dimensional images, then reports full-frame statistics alongside explicitly estimated robust statistics.
Serverless limit: 256 MiB per FITS image; 512 MiB total per job. Larger files will need our forthcoming container processing worker.
Sign in to select archived frames.
INSTRUMENT 03 / STELLAR ALIGNMENT & LINEAR INTEGRATION
Assign FITS captures by acquisition role. AstroScott can measure stellar offsets between lights, align small tracking shifts, calibrate, and integrate them into a real floating-point FITS master. Originals are never changed.
Sign in and load your capture library to begin.
Pilot limits: 2–8 lights, up to 4 per calibration group; 4,194,304 pixels per FITS frame, 24 million input pixels total, maximum 34 MiB per file and 256 MiB per job. Supports 2D uncompressed primary FITS, including raw CFA mosaics as single-channel data (no debayer). Dark exposures must match lights; no dark scaling. Automatic mode supports translation-only star matching (up to 96 px, at least six stars, measured residuals). It will reject unsupported rotation, scale or low-confidence matches; it does not plate-solve, debayer, perform color calibration or synthesize image detail. Larger datasets need a future container processor.
SCIENTIFIC COLOR WORKFLOW / DERIVED COMPOSITES
Combine aligned, calibrated FITS channels into RGB or narrowband composites. Adjust the display without changing your originals; keep the output recipe and actual linear pixel values separate.
Select RGB/HOO/SHO channels, then confirm alignment and calibration.
FITS export uses the original source pixels, channel gains and selected planar correction — never the display stretch. For browser safety, linear composite FITS export is limited to 4.2 megapixels; larger captures need a server processing pass.
CAMERA DEVELOPMENT / PRIVATE SCIENTIFIC ORIGINALS
Select a capture in the private library to decode it on demand using LibRaw or tifffile. The output is a developed 16-bit TIFF, separate PNG preview, and provenance. Supported RAW Bayer sensors also produce an uncalibrated sensor-mosaic FITS file.
NO GENERATIVE EDITING
02 / PRIVATE OUTPUT PREVIEW
SCIENTIFIC CAUTIONS & PROVENANCE
PHOTO FINISHING / EXPLICIT PUBLICATION
Preview a finished FITS display, channel composite, or a local JPEG/PNG camera photo. Adjust the presentation, add the observing notes, and publish only when you choose. Your original captures stay private.
Camera RAW originals (.CR2, .CR3, .NEF, .ARW, .DNG, etc.) are archived privately and supported cameras can be developed with LibRaw. Use Develop RAW & TIFF to convert supported native captures privately, then bring the finished PNG preview into this panel. Demosaicing is not calibrated scientific stacking. JPEG/PNG are display-referred, not linear scientific masters.
